why ants?

• because they are a fascinating irritating breed

• because we are not so very different from them: scurrying about our daily business, eating, breeding, killing, getting in the way, making homes and rearing the next generation.

• because the site was available

• because it is the home of ants

• because antarchia bows to no authority except that of ants

what is the point of the nuggets?

• to provide a better way of organising the quotes and statistics I used to note down on scraps of paper and then lose

• to bring the terrible facts that I can never recall in arguments in front of my eyes

• to refer others to useful resources, articles, books

• to bring the terrible facts that no-one else recalls in arguments in front of others' eyes

what is the best way of viewing the nuggets?

• I am not sure: I don't know that they are to be 'viewed' except as they hit you in the face. But probably at the mix-and-match page where at least you can see them according to the category they were filed under. Or else try searching by keyword here but don't be surprised by the answers.

why are there so few humbugs?

• Because I am not yet sure what to do with it - but I liked the term. Maybe I will just provide links to good articles rather than reproducing them here.

why is everything in one column down the left-hand side of the page?

• you are probably viewing with internet explorer 6. I don't understand why firefox, opera, konqueror, and even IE7 can cope with my filthy css... but IE6 can't. I refuse to waste more time trying to make it. If you want to read the column in 3 columns, and if you must use internet explorer, you will have to upgrade to IE7. Otherwise: get

• War-On-Terror. So-called

WOT is HRE?

• HRE = 'Human-Rights-Education' (so called). Which may or may not be the same as Human Rights education.

Other terms with unusual or ambiguous meanings:

Blessed:

• 1. Consecrated, holy 2. 'Cursed' or the like (OED) cf 'Britain is blessed' - Tony Bliar, 2007

Blie:

• (verb) To tell a lie about an international crime (eg a war of aggression). May include such things as lying in the build-up to war, lying about the effects of a war, lying about what one knew or knows, lying about where one's hand is, and whether it is on the heart. Derivatives include blies, blied, blying, Bliar.

Lie:

• (verb) 1. Equivalent to blie (see above) 2. To refuse to stand, normally in relation to a question of conscience 3. To assume a 'neutral' position (usu. the line of least resistance). See lying for examples.

ngo-business:

• An organisation calling itself an ngo, whose primary aim is to sustain its own future existence at the same or an increased level. Other characteristics may include: executive salaries for chief executives, excessive use of business practices or business jargon, excessive funds being used to service the organisation itself, to pay fundraisers, produce glossy publications or other 'publicity' materials etc.

Stand:

• (verb) 1. To assume a vertical position 2. To refuse to lie 3. A sort of kamikaze act. See standing

Super-markets:

• A market which is really Super, normally offering super opportunities for investment, super profits for those who have anything to invest, and super possibilities for exploitation of local workers. Examples include the traditional supermarkets and other chain stores such as Gap, Top Shop etc.
