do not sound a trumpet before thee

It is so easy to care when it doesn't cost you anything. Easy to care even $95 million - if you have $5 million left in the bank. Could you have spent those millions anyway. Doesn't everyone 'care' and isn't that one of the small things we mean when we say all human beings are 'equal', have equal dignity. But the caring community likes to have a monopoly on caring: we are the ones who care. We care MORE. We care so much we make a living out of caring.
- Can you have a salary of $150,000, while 10 million children under 5 are dying every year, if you care?
- Can you renovate your London offices, employ yet more international staff, and pile money into 'reserves', as every NGO-business makes a habit of doing, if you care about those children?
- Can you have $5 million, let alone $100 million in the bank while 28,000 children under 5 are dying every day, if you care?
Of course you can, but only in the sense that everyone else in the world cares. And that is not enough to stop the children dying
...when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Matthew 6:2
