In May and July 2001, the authoritative Jane's Foreign Report disclosed that Britain and France had given Israel 'the green light' to attack the West Bank. The Blair government was shown a top-secret plan for an all-out invasion and reoccupation of both the West Bank and Gaza, which were then administered by Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Authority under Israel sufferance. The plan was to use 'the latest F-16 and F-15 jets against all the main installations of the Palestinian Authority [and] 30,000 men or the equivalent of a full army'. However, this plan needed 'the trigger' of a suicide bombing which would cause 'numerous deaths and injuries [because] the "revenge" factor is crucial'. This 'would motivate Israeli soldiers to demolish the Palestinians'.

A Green Party activist, was searched and then arrested at the entrance to the Climate Camp ... for alleged 'possession of a controlled substance'.

He was handcuffed and taken away by the police to Medway Police Station in Gillingham, where he was put into a windowless cell without proper drinking water or toilet facilities for the next five hours. His fingerprints and thumbprints were taken, and a DNA swab from his mouth, thus putting him onto the national police database.

Those who rule by violence tend to be 'behaviourist' in their outlook. What people may think is not terribly important; what counts is what they do. They must obey, and this obedience is secured by force.... Democratic systems are quite different. It is necessary to control not only what people do, but also what they think. Since the state lacks the capacity to ensure obedience by force, thought can lead to action, and therefore the threat to order must be excised at the source. It is necessary to establish a framework for possible thought that is constrained wthin the principles of the state religion. These need not be asserted; it is better that they be presupposed, as the unstated framework for thinkable thought.
